Mountain Loft Suite

The Loft Suite is the perfect example of how passive solar design can make a space comfortable and efficient at all times of the year. It harnesses the sunlight in the cooler months and protects guests from the rays in the hot seasons. When you enter the room, you will no doubt find the curtains swaying in the high desert breeze. When you shut the lights off for the night, be prepared to see a sky full of stars and room bathed in moonlight.

The Loft has its own private entry and can be rented out as a separate apartment. Or if you prefer, you can live in the loft and rent out the rest of the house! The wall in between the house and the loft is a 2x6 wall to promote quietude and privacy as well as to provide a sense of separation from main household activities.

An adjoining alcove can be curtained off for privacy. The alcove can be used for an additional sleeper, workspace or meditative sun space. Also could be converted easily into a small eat-in kitchen.

Off the sleeping area is a private, spacious Dressing area. Off the dressing area is our Rainforest Marble bath, complete with Jetted Jacuzzi tub. Soak in it and soak in the red rock views, including Bell Rock!

The Loft is like a small apartment with lots of choices for being comfortable. Here is the view from the bed towards the alcove space. The alcove itself is like an atrium, surrounded by glass and filled with the views of trees, skies, the mesa to the east and loads of birds and other wildlife outside. Patio doors serve as a private entry which leads to a large deck and stairs that lead to the patio and BBQ area below. There is also a phone jack and cable hook-up in the Loft.

North View from the Loft Deck

South View from the Loft Deck

Perhaps this is our favorite "room" in the house. Directly off the Loft Alcove, the balcony is a special exterior space with woodburning fireplace overlooking the southern views. Watch the sun come up with your morning coffee; watch the full moon rise over the mesa as it lights the star-filled sky. Passive Solar design at its best! In the cooler months the sunshine streams in to warm you; in the hot months, the sun is high above the house, allowing guests to enjoy Sedona's temperate climate almost every day of the year.

Since our camera can't capture the beauty of the nighttime views from the balcony, we will have to settle with the late afternoon views. The Mingus Mountain range to the south is everchanging and some nights the lights of Phoenix cast a glow behind it. Come and experience this sacred and special place.
